The pretty small village of Porto Valtravaglia can be reached by foot in a few minutes. There are several restaurants and cafés, grocery stores, a bakery, and a supermarket. Every Monday there is a market on the square by the lake. In the warmer months regular local festivities are organized. In the middle of the village the passenger boats stop on their way up and down the lake. The train station can also be reached by foot. Trains run to Switzerland and Milano.
The small cities Luino and Laveno are located 8km from Porto Valtravaglia. Everything can be found there. Milano will spoil any fashion shopper.
Other sight-seeing in the area: Borromean Islands, Intra, Stresa, Lake Orta, Cannobio, Locarno, Ascona, Lugano and many more. Walking, hiking, bicycling near by or in the Swiss or Italian Alps.
There is a very nice golf ground going to Varese.
